PROJECT OVERVIEW
As part of the implementation of the central Business Intelligence system in the free zone, we worked on several aspects of the project.
The system made it possible to consolidate several KPI indicators from several heterogeneous systems, and to consolidate them in the form of a unified Dashboard.
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES
Here are some of the difficulties we encountered:
Understanding business needs: User needs poorly understood or communicated. Difficulty translating business needs into technical specifications.
Scope changes: Business needs and priorities evolve during the course of the project, resulting in scope changes and adjustments to the initial plan.
Poor-quality data: The data used for BI was often of poor quality, incomplete or inconsistent, which could have compromised the accuracy of reports and analyses without clean-up work.
Complexity of data sources: Information systems were complex, with numerous data sources. Integrating these sources was not straightforward.
Data security and confidentiality: Banking data is sensitive and regulated. Ensuring data security and confidentiality while making it accessible for analysis was a challenge in itself.
Performance management: Data volumes were enormous. Ensuring fast performance for queries and reports was a technical challenge.
Resistance to change: End-users were often reluctant to adopt new BI tools or change their usual work processes.
Interdepartmental coordination: BI involves several departments, requiring close coordination to ensure smooth implementation. Choice of tools and technologies: Selecting the right BI tools to match business needs while respecting budgetary constraints.
Scalability: Ensuring that the BI system could evolve to meet future needs while maintaining the stability of the current system was also a challenge.
Stakeholder management: Ensuring that all stakeholders were satisfied and appropriately involved throughout the project was tricky.
THE SOLUTION
Identification of business objectives for BI implementation: We began by understanding end-user needs and requirements for reporting and analysis.
Project planning: We drew up a detailed project plan that included milestones, required resources, deadlines and budget. We also identified key stakeholders.
System design: We designed the overall architecture of the BI system, including data sources, data warehouses, reporting tools, dashboards, etc.
Selection of tools and technologies: We chose Tableau as the BI tool, and selected the appropriate databases and technologies according to the company’s needs.
Data collection and integration: We identified the necessary data sources, extracted the relevant data and integrated it into the data warehouse. We ensured that the data was clean, consistent and up-to-date. Data modeling: We have designed a data model that enables efficient analyses. This includes the definition of dimensions, facts, measures and relationships.
Report and dashboard development: We created the reports, dashboards and visualizations required to meet user needs. We then customized them according to specific requirements.
Testing and validation: We carried out extensive testing to ensure that data was correctly integrated, reports functioned as expected, and results were consistent with expectations.
User training: We provided training to end-users to ensure that they knew how to use the BI system effectively.
Production roll-out: We deployed the BI system in production in a controlled manner. We ensured optimum performance and adequate security.
KEY BENEFITS
Better decision-making: The BI implemented provided relevant data and real-time analysis, enabling the bank’s executives to make informed decisions based on accurate information.
Improved risk management: BI enabled financial risks to be monitored and analyzed more effectively, helping the bank to minimize potential losses.
Optimized operations: BI was able to help identify operational inefficiencies
